High potential and gifted education
Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.
At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.
Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

Opening doors to wider experiences
Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.
What is high potential and gifted education?
High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.
Our high potential and gifted education opportunities
At Emmaville Central School, we are committed to the NSW Department of Education’s High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) Policy, which ensures that students with high potential across all areas of ability are identified, supported and challenged to thrive. The policy recognises that students may demonstrate high potential — and the capacity for gifted performance - in one or more of four domains: intellectual, creative, social emotional and physical.
At Emmaville Central School, HPGE is part of everyday practice. We are committed to recognising and nurturing high potential and gifted students, ensuring every student has the opportunity to thrive at our school.
- Our supportive classroom environments promote a sense of belonging and encourage risk-taking, creativity and collaboration.
- Groups are flexible for collaboration and presentation.
- Students learn from tasks that promote choice, authenticity, and critical and creative thinking.
Our school recognises that every student is individual, and we provide flexible and diverse opportunities for students to explore and grow their strengths outside the classroom.
- All students, including high potential and gifted students, are encouraged to take on leadership roles through student representative council leadership, Junior AECJ and eadership of major events including the community ANZAC Day, Remembrance Day and assemblies.
- When subjects are not available at Emmaville Central School, students in Stages 5 and 6 are supported to access a broad range of learning opportunities through Distance Education. This includes subjects such as Languages, Elective History and a variety of Technology courses, ensuring students can pursue their interests and aspirations.
Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide programs that aim to extend and enrich student potential.
- Emmaville Central School continues to prioritise sporting participation in a multitude of competitions including gala days, knock out competitions and selection through to zone, regional and state carnivals.
- Targeted students participate in ICAS assessments in English, Writing, Mathematics, Digital Technology, Geography and Science.
- Students with talents in areas not offered at Emmaville Central School are supported to compete in statewide competitions and events.
- Statewide chess and spelling bee competitions.
